By David Loy August 12, 2018 03:05:10OTC: ALCO (OTCPK: ALCT) will announce its acquisition of OMRON Electronics Inc., a leading U.S. electronics maker, for $1.7 billion, the company said Friday.
OMRON is a leader in digital signal processing, a category that includes digital signal processors (DSPs), signal processors for mobile phones and tablets, digital-to-analog converters and digital-signal amplifiers.
The transaction will close in the second half of 2019.
OMron is based in Rochester, New York, and is privately held.
The merger will help Alco become one of the world’s largest semiconductor companies.
Alco currently has more than $20 billion in cash, including cash and short-term investments, and has $2 billion in its advanced manufacturing, manufacturing services and other businesses.
Alco also is a leading provider of advanced technologies to the automotive industry, aerospace, telecommunications and energy industries.
